Roberto and Araceli by Maria

M: Okay so it’s Sunday and we’re at the farmers market and I’m speaking to Three Sisters Farm, Roberto and Araceli, and so you’ve been coming to the farmers market for quite a long time. Many years now.

R: We got the roots already here!

M: and do you go to other farmers markets?

R: We try. It don’t work. Not yet.

M: And so you’ve been farming in the Rondout Valley for how many years now?

R: Farming in this area for 30 years – 25 years in New Paltz area, five years on Arrowhead Farm in Kerhonkson. I’m doing good because I’m working more time in the farm.

M: That’s great. What is it that you like about Rosendale?

R:  I like all the people – friendly, lovely, and they understand the farmers. They eat too. They are nice and they would help you too. They like to eat healthy food. You know that’s why they come here. The people, the community together, like you know everybody here, even the dogs. Everybody come with a dog to enjoy the farmer market.

M:One of the things we’re looking for is ideas for Rosendale for making it even even better place. Have you noticed anything about the farmers market or about how the town you know is arranged or events that you’d like to see happen more? Any ideas that you have?

R: I wanted to try some ideas, all ideas. The one we learned for a long time in the country, you know, with grandpas. So I want to try to see if I can make it up, roast peanuts and pumpkin seeds, but I need to know what rules we need to have a little, just to roast it.

M: The health department rules yes.

R: The roasted peanuts and the pumpkin seeds.. Yeah, yeah.

M: I think that would be a really nice addition. Oh yeah, right.

R: I know I try last year, I put a door in my home and I send a pitch to Megan. She said try to bring to Rosendale, but that was an end to this.

M: I wonder if we could, if there’s something out there for you, a grant or something that could, that could fund you to develop that, you know, it wouldn’t take much.

R: We have something we want with the tamales and we need a certified kitchen. So I need to know to find something.

M: Yeah, yeah, that’s great. Yeah, so that’s what you need, a certified kitchen for sure. The tamales are so good!
